Hello everyone,

Initially, I wanted to share this post in January, but life has a funny way of sneaking up on you. Cliché, I know. But, it’s true. 2015 was a hectic year for me, and I’ve had a lot of time to reflect on a few things so I’ve decided to share with you a few life lessons.

  1. Carbs are not the enemy

Nowadays, nearly everyone is food conscious. Thinking about what you put in your body is not a terrible thing. I have a few friends who have switched to eating plant-based alternatives from animal foods for a more organic, healthier lifestyle. This is not the issue. It just seems that almost everyone I see on social media is counting calories to lose weight for an hourglass figure, and I can’t help but feel like an outsider that I actually enjoy eating… a lot. I used to try to fit the status quo and have the ideal body that’s expected of me until I realized that I enjoy feeding my hunger far too much.

  1. Music therapy is a thing (and it actually works)

One of the best thing that helps gets me out of a bad funk is listening to music. Music helps clear my mind and refreshes my senses. It calms me.

  1. It’s okay to make mistakes

I’ve made a lot of mistakes in 2015 (admittedly, my entire life). I’ve tried, and I’ve failed. They say you can’t make the same mistake twice . . . well, I have. I should be ashamed, but I’m not because I don’t strive for perfection. Life doesn’t come with a handbook (don’t I wish), and I’m still learning. I have many more years left to live and I don’t want to spend it afraid to do challenging, scary things. I enjoy experimenting and I like to push myself to new, unknown territories. If I make a few mistakes along the way, so be it.

  1. Daydreaming can be counterproductive

I admit, I’m an obsessive daydreamer. I fantasize about my ideal life so much that I rather let my mind wander than take steps that are needed to accomplish my goals. Instead of daydreaming for hours, I need to actually do something about it. I’ve learned that daydreaming helps motivates me, but now I need to learn how to energize myself and channel that energy to create my desired future into reality.

  1. You’re never too old to celebrate your birthday

The last time I celebrated my birthday, I was turning 21. It’s been a few years since then and it was the last time I did anything for my birthday. I suppose now that I’m older, I’m not as excited about my birthday, and I feel a little silly when my friends try to plan me a birthday party. Truth be told, I really enjoyed my 21st birthday party. It was the last time I felt so carefree, no worries in the world. Now that I’m older, I have far more responsibilities. I’m always busy with either school or work, and I don’t have much time for myself.  In 2015, I’ve learned that I need to take a break from life to save my sanity and being carefree just for one day (or two) can be good for me. *Note to self: start planning a weekend getaway for upcoming birthday*
